It is Friday and it is cloudy. We decided to leave San Pancho by city bus and travel down the highway for 45 min. to the famous city of Puerto Vallarta. It’s a wonder we made it with the driver from hell. We arrived in Viejo Vallarta at the north end of the malecon which is a very long boardwalk along the beach. Thousands of people stroll this boardwalk every year, and are entertained by many bronze sculptures and sand sculptures as well as live entertainment. The beach was disappointing because it was too narrow and filled with too many fat white people sipping margueritas. We knew that there was a famous bakery close by and we had little trouble finding it. We purchased some delicious treats and fresh bread and then decided to eat lunch. Milla and Sue ate chicken sopes and Rob had a baked potato and chicken soup. We met some nice people in the restaurant from Chicago. After lunch we decided to locate the PURE vanilla that Mexico is famous for. We found lots of vanilla but didn’t believe the store people when they told us that it was authentic, so no vanilla yet. The bus ride back to San Pancho was hot and tiring. While Rob and Milla snoozed, Sue watched as the bus passed on a dangerous curve while the driver talked on his cell phone and texted. He nearly crashed into a cement truck. Whew!!!
Back in the quiet village of San Pancho, we headed for EntreAmigos to publish yesterday’s blog. While Sue and Milla worked at the computer, Rob watched the local Cirque de Soleil performer from Montreal teach the young children how to do tricks. Around 6 p.m. we ate leftovers and then headed down to the beach to enjoy the art walk held every Friday night. We chatted briefly with Recia and Libby and then went to our favourite smoothy spot to check out the owner’s art. She does portraits and has decided to paint a Cambridge person and participate in The Many Faces project. Back at Casa Tequila, we settled in for the evening with a good book.
