We began the day in search of Recia Royston and her friend (who arrived yesterday from Toronto). Recia rented an apartment at ‘Villa Paradise’, which is located half a mile down the beach. On our way to find them, we discovered a protected turtle nursery. which is run by local volunteers who are determined to save the species from extinction. When we arrived at the villa, we didn’t find Recia and her friend Libby, but we did find Walter, the neighbour next door, who was a Swiss architect. Walter offered to give us a tour of his house, which he is listing in a few months for $500,000.00 U.S. We appreciated the tour, but decided not to put in an offer for the home. As we walked back on the beach towards the village, we spotted Recia and Libby sauntering up ahead.
We walked down Main street, and took them on a tour of Entre Amigos, where they signed up to take a few tours, as well as perusing the cafe, the library, the gift shop, the recycling project, and the thrift store . The Cafe which is run by Axel and Camilla, had its grand opening yesterday, and is a welcome addition to the community centre. The menu is simple, but good....homemade everything.... lemon pie, pizza, bread and smoothies. Sue has finally found good bread in San Pancho...no longer does she need to go to La Cruz market, or Sayulita bakery. Robert and Milla then took the tired twosome (Recia and Libby) to the biggest grocery store in San Pancho, to load up on groceries before taking a cab back to their villa.
Our afternoon was spent with David and Eric, at ‘Alliance Jaguar’,which is a non-profit organization, dedicated to the conservation of jaguars in Mexico. We discussed the complicated issues surrounding their survival, and the role that this small group of feisty, dedicated, determined volunteers play in this effort . As a result of our chat with these guys, Robert now has a new project.... to write and illustrate a children’s story book about jaguar conservation. As I write this blog, however, he is baking a carrot cake from scratch for Sue and Milla. ( Milla and Robert had an opportunity to meet the neighbours, a retired couple from Boston, who have lived here for 5 years. They donated baking powder and baking soda to the’ cake cause’.) Milla and Sue did not help with the baking,. They read their new books from the library instead. But you can bet that they will be first in line, for a chunk of his yummy cake!
