Ahhhh...Valentine’s Day.....the day of LOVE.....and here in Mexico children are carrying roses, many lovely women are dressed in vibrant red outfits, and the red uniformed bands are playing to old lovers in the park!
We started the day with a stroll to the south end of the beach where there is a little cove and the waves break further out. Here the ocean is a little tamer, so that we could actually go into the water and body ride the waves. Tomorrow we rent ‘boogie boards’!
After lunch we were off to explore the village, and lo and behold we came upon ‘La Patrona Polo Club’ where we met a veryhospitable man called Pablo from Guatamala, a horse trainer, and polo player who lives on site guarding 35 beautiful thoroughbreds. He invited us to look around and invited us to come out to the practices, and the big match on Saturday. We snooped through the Polo Museum to see lots of interesting things...many photos of the Queen, who attended the games in the past. Apparently, this polo club is a hidden gem in the world of polo, according to the Wall Street Journal. We hope to attend the game on Saturday and hobnob with the local elite!
Just uphill from the polo club is the San Pancho cemetery, a place where we hear drug deals ‘go down’. We were disappointed with the lack of TLC....it looked like a garbage dump!! (.must be the druggies). As we strolled through the neighborhood looking at types of houses, we heard fhe sound of lively Mexican music in the distance. The music came from a public park down on main street where men usually play cards. We saw a lady dressed in a Queen of Hearts costume, and tables of people surrounding her. One couple danced to the music.
We then stocked up on our groceries at El Indio, as our fridge was close to bare. Roberto the chef outdid himself again cooking a gourmet dinner.... roast chicken, homemade caesar dressing, mango sauce, salad and carrots. Sue and Milla and I worked on another "Many Faces" portrait until the wee hours of the morning. (Ann Van Norman).
